EDWARD J. MERCHANT

Ed Merchant

Ed Merchant is an established trial attorney who concentrates his practice in litigation. Ed has a demonstrated track record of success navigating and litigating various facets of law. As a persuasive professional, Ed thrives in the courtroom and excels at building rapport with clients.

Prior to co-founding Smid & Merchant, Ed was a partner in a mid-sized law firm in downtown Indianapolis where he specialized in civil and criminal litigation. Ed has successfully tried dozens of cases before state, federal and administrative courts. Emphasizing a dynamic and proficient approach to litigation, Ed has served as lead counsel in several high-profile trials throughout the State of Indiana.

In 2015, Ed was selected by Chief Judge Richard L. Young to serve on the Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Committee for the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Indiana. Ed is also a recipient of the Herman B. Wells Leadership Award, the Lawrence A. Jegen Law Award and the Robert A. Gemmill Law Scholarship.

Ed is a member of the Indiana Bar Association, the Indianapolis Bar Association and the Hamilton County Bar Association. He serves as a Board Member for the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation and is an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Indianapolis Lodge #86.

Ed received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University in 2003, and his law degree from Indiana University McKinney School of Law in 2006. He currently resides in Fishers with his wife and three (3) children.
